State Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering(SKPLME)
College of polymer science and engineering, Sichuan University was founded in 1953, it is the first polymer material specialty in colleges and universities in China, it is a national key discipline, the 211 project and the "985 Project" key construction disciplines, it is one of the largest scientific research and teaching bases in the field of polymer materials science and Engineering in China, which is characterized by the preparation, processing and high performance of polymer materials. It enjoys high prestige both at home and abroad.
SKPLME is established in 1991. The laboratory is one of the 75 national key laboratories and one of 7 pilot laboratories in “the key discipline development project " which was built by world bank loans. SKPLME has passed the national assessment for the 4 times. The founder of the SKPLME is Professor Xu Xi, who is the China's outstanding polymer materials scientist and the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The SKPLME-based disciplines are the first polymer materials discipline in our university, The first batch of key disciplines, the earliest master's degree, doctorate grant units and postdoctoral station.
SKPLME has an experimental building with an area of nearly 7000m2 and dozens of advanced instruments and equipments for the synthesis, structural and performance testing and processing of polymer materials, with a total value more than RMB 100 million yuan. SKPLME has developed a batch of instruments and equipments with independent intellectual property rights.
SKPLME has made important achievements in the research of high performance and functional polymer materials, polymer molding theory and technology, polymer materials for oil field development and so on. SKPLME attaches great importance to cooperation and academic exchanges with academia and industry at home and abroad, and signed cooperation agreements with 12 countries, 29 universities, many scientific research institutions and companies. There are 4 international cooperation research centers has been established. SKPLME is the international joint research center of polymer materials and engineering, international Cooperation Base of the Ministry of Science and Technology. SKPLME also has long-term and close cooperation with domestic large enterprises, and has built 8 joint laboratories to solve major technical problems. In April 2016, Premier Li Keqiang visited the SKPLME.
